Help.....

Seems that we have a ant problem in our new little house. A shitload of em'. Ok. Maybe not a shitload and I'm not really sure what exactly the measurements on a shitload would be but.... I'm pretty sure we have not reached that level.

Anyhoo. Does anyone know how to get rid of them? I think they are coming in via a sliding glass door that leads to the deck. Tiny black ants. That bite.

I've tried a couple different sprays and we even bought yard stakes (with the ant repellant stuff) and the little oh-so-lovely boxes that supposedly offers the critters poison food to take back and wipe out the colony.

A mass murder if you will. Yet still.... they come back. Absolutely no food is in the area to attract and even in the kitchen we are putting everything into ziploc bags just to be safe.

Help?!

We had sugar ants (the teeny tiny ones) in Florida. The thing I was told to do by the locals included a wipedown of their paths into the wouse with a liberal amount of Clorox. The ants leave a scent as they move along and it attracts others. If it's possible to wipe the area with bleach that may help to interrupt the pathways.

Or just finding their nest and pouring the bleach down it...

If they're wood (carpenter) ants you need an exterminator as they *will* eat wood much like termites.

Sorry for all the good news...

btw...my word verification is 'juhgz'. Did you do that? lol

TERRO ANT KILLER
it is the BEST STUFF
it is basically karo syrup and strychnine
you put it on cardboard and leave it for them..they drink it (and they do) and take it back and it kills everyone in their nest...
they will swarm to it at first...
buy it at a hardware store and sometimes at the grocery store...

Cheryl is right. That stuff is a miracle in a bottle. I had ants so bad it was totally out of control when I lived in Florida. That stuff is ant crack, I tell you. They never come back, either. You can get it at Home Depot in a small bottle.

Really now, Rox --- how big can a load of ant sh*t possibly be?

I second, third, and fourth the suggestion for Terro. Get it at Walgreen's in a little orange box. Stuff works like a MIRACLE.

Damn! Sorry I'm late to the ant killing party!

I use something called "Concern". It's an orange peel based spray and it really does the trick. They stay away from where you spray and, if you spray enough to leave a wet sheen, they die instantly when they get to it.

I've used it when we had a kitty. Then you just spray and wipe so it's not wet.

I bought it at, I think, WalMart.

My cat used to LOVE ants. They made him drool.

Go figure.

My MIL swears by some orange ant killer she got at Whole Foods but what has worked for us is something I got at Safeway. I don't know the name, but it is a small clear plastic container (I think they come 6 to a package) that is filled with liquid ant killer. The ants just love it, and even though some of them die in the container (and you can see them because it's clear) they just keep coming. Strange, but it works. Good luck!
