Wrote out a long post earlier today.... and Blogger apparently went down during my writing. Of course, they don't tell you they are down when you are in the middle of a post. Nor do they save said post.

And its happened to me more than once.

Just a quick note for those asking about the shawl in my last post. Its crochet. I see you making the faces.

It actually is a fast project for me usually and whenever I need an instant fix..... I get out the crochet hook.

Anyhoo, the shawl is a little pattern I came up with years ago. Very adaptable to any yarn or hook size. The yarn used for that item was a lace wool that I bought off a woman on Etsy. The Painted Dragon.... or something like that. Bought a bunch of rainbow colors..... there will be more bright shawls to come no doubt.

..... learned the financial value of a pool pump (craaaap), ate ham even though I don't particularly care for it, burned my hand pretty bad on the oven (oven hot me stupid), fell out of my flip flop at the Kwik Shop ........ and made this.

It was a gooood weekend just because I so love this shawl! :)

Proof that I've done more this past month than just bitch about the house!

Blue alpaca lace shawl. Crochet pattern. I'm maybe 1/4 of the way thru this. The color is very vibrant and of course I love the alpaca. Made with Knit Picks Shimmer in Turquoise Splendor.

In a very lace mood lately. Which is good as I have a ton of it in stock. This KP Shimmer is wonderful if you've been thinking about trying it. Donna gave me a wonderful book a few weeks ago - and I think its also contributing to my passion for lace.

A baby bootie giftie. This is a cashmere yarn that I've had for a while, just waiting for a perfect home. Soft, lush and the socks could not be more adorable.

I've also (STILL) been working on SET socks for the gal that didnt get hers. Not sure why I am having so much grief with this but - just can't seem to make it work for me. Gauge is off. Its too thick. Too thin. The heel looks wonky. Yada yada. Socks. Hmph!

So.... see.... there has been yarn passing thru these fingers recently. :)

TV & Stuff

Ok. So. I havent been my normal slobbering self over Survivor this season.

Two reasons. First, its kind of dull this round. I mean, its looking like there is a good chance that the middle aged white guy from suburbia may win again. Or it could be one of the younger stronger men.

Shocking.

Or not. I also just don't really like any of the 'castaways' this season. Cirie is really the only one I like - and she has no chance to make it to the end. No one is going to take her into the final two (unless she goes bad ass in the next few weeks) and she is not the most physically fit to win any of the immunity challenges. But - she's the only one I really want to win.

And then there is the Amazing Race. Which is really probably going to be as predictable. The Frat Boys or The Hippies (both young, healthy men teams) are going to go away with the million.

Boring. Yet I don't miss an episode.

Next we have Lost. Which frankly is starting to annoy me a little. I mean, there have been a few shirtless scenes with my lovah for which I'm thankful. (hehe) . But I'm starting to wonder how long I can watch a show where the only way you can find out what the hell is going on..... is for the show to end. Who are the Others? Whats the deal with the smoke creatures? Who is this stupid prisoner guy? Why is everybody so affected strangely (ie - no longer being wheelchair bound, infertile or yada yada) on this slab of land?

Patience. But really, how long are we all going to hold out waiting for the mystery to be revealed?

And... Kathy.... did you see that your man is going to be on the tv movie "The Ten Commandments"?

Whew. Now, I'm off to NOT watch tv!! Deck stairs... callin' my name. (ack) Hoping you are in the midst of a wonderful weekend!

This just in.....

Its not a pod person. Sadly. Much worse. The green plant thing growing in our back yard is a onion. I even found out from the DH of Mrs Yarngirl (with a confirmation from Shannon) that its a chinese onion. I tore a tip off of one of the stems (?) and it was actually hollow - and vile smelling.

Gross.

My mystery plant that had such endless possibilities is just a plain old, nasty, bitter, thing I hate most - onion.

Oh, the horror. hehe

But it was a fun mystery eh?!

.... if you are singing right now... you are as old as me. And we don't look a day past er, 25. Right? !

Took a little trip around our back yard today - oh the horrors. I wonder why I didnt see all the work this house needs done when we first looked at it?

I am feeling motivated though. Kind of. In a all-talk and no-action sort of way. hehe. My friend Shannon is like, this house repair genius. And she does it all herself. Completely astonishes me when I see some of the jobs she has tackled in her house.

I can hang a good picture. Once I even put up a curtain rod, nailed the bracket to the wall and everything. Shannon is redoing her water system. I should be ashamed. Especially after living by myself for 30 years. I was a single independent woman. Now I have this stereotype of what I should have to do and what my hubby should have to do.

For instance. He always, without fail does these chores: taking out the trash, cleaning the cat box, taking the cars in for any repairs and any bug killin'. I do dishes, laundry, most of the house cleaning, bathe the dog, pick up any cat furballs and I even wash my inlaws laundry.

This all seems fair to me. But then we get to the big things. Like plumbing issues or the fifty other things that are falling apart in this house. When you rent - you just make a phone call to the owner of the house. Not any more. Shit! And my hubby is about as educated in home repairs as I am.

So, again in following Shannon's lead. I'm going to acknowledge what needs to be done and going to go about the process of friggin doing it. Because, I'm a woman. A strong, independent woman. And I ain't scared.

Now... lets all sing the song. "I am woman hear me roar.... yada yada".

There. Now. I've got it out of my system.

Here is the start of what needs to be tackled.

The back porch stairs. The scariest damn stairs you evah walked on. They sway. They make a "I could bust at any moment" sound with each step. And frankly they look like hell.

Not to mention they really ugly up the back yard. One day, years from now when we have won the lottery and stuff we will replace the whole deck. But for now.... I can only afford the stairs!

Someday also, that siding behind those steps needs to be replaced.

Oh gawd. What have I gotten myself into.

Ok. One step at a time.

Now. Does anyone know anything about replacing steps? Helpful hints? I'm off to research ....

Did I make this? NOOOO! It was a GIFT from Donni!

Donni finished this beauty a couple of weeks ago and had said she thought it to be too big. Well, I've always wanted a clapotis - but the pattern kind of scares me. Yeah, I'm not really fearless. Anyhoo - I thought I'd ask her if she would sell me hers if she didnt want it. Especially if it was too big - I'm a big girl and a big clapotis.... would be just fine.

She refused money. Refused. And this came in the mail on Monday. Breathtakingly beautiful. And although no pics of me wearing it - hubby NEVER home before dark anymore - it fits wonderfully. Will be perfect for the theaters in the park this summer.

Answers to comments.... ( I know, shocking eh?!!) hehe

I live in Kansas, just outside of KC! Nowhere near Jersey.... but I did drive thru there once on my way back from MA. That counts as visiting, right?! For as little as I saw though - I'd love to actually get the chance to stop and visit. Next time! I bought the Kraemer yarn at my favorite LYS. It was reasonably priced and I liked the texture. The color just has to grow on me a bit.

The scary plant in our garden (rather our wannabe garden).... not sure if its oozy (its a word, man) or not. But I don't think its aloe. Does aloe grow outside of warm weather climates? Eh, maybe it is. No idea. Gonna be an adventure seeing its progress though - I'll keep you updated. Take a look at the scary root looking thing in Laurie & Tom's garden!

Debi... I know!! Others have told me about my pictures on Bloglines - I have no idea what to do about it!!! Help!!! Anyone!! My pics on Bloglines are giganto - yet here.... they are what I sized them to be. Why is this happening? Not sure if its me.... or Bloglines but.... I'm really trying to get to the bottom of it!!

Has it really been 4 days since I posted? Funny how doing absolutely nothing can just take up all my spare time.

Well not absolutely nothing.....

I did buy yarn. Because you know, the 4 bags (still unpacked), 2 totes and various containers already full of yarn around the house.... were just not "the" stuff I needed. I'm sure you understand.

6 sk's of Classic Elite Premiere in soft orangeand 3 Kraemer Yarns Tatamy Tweed in pink. I felt rushed on the Kraemer as once I got it home... I thought "too pink". But I'm sure I'll find good use for it. Eventually. This whole bag of yarn cost me..... $30. I had two $15 off coupons! Gotta love a yarn coupon.

I'm going to use the CE to make this tank.

I've been eyeing it since last summer, I think that Lisa lead me to it if I remember correctly. the only thing that worries me about it is the arms - seem low. And bra fat must be hid. But... I'll try it anyway! I'm sure I can always find a home for it somewhere!

Calling out to the gardeners ..... do you know what this plant is?

The previous owners of the house said they planted perenials last year (sooo didnt spell that right) but surely this cannot be a flowering plant? Looks like a massive aloe vera. Hubby thinks it might be a yucca plant. At the rate its growing.... it should be offering shade to the entire house (or block hehe) here in a few days, has tripled in size in the last week!

.... I've been working on a little storefront site. It should be said that I am not a web designer. Not at all. But I have been able to navigate my way around Namo Web Editor enough to build a little site.

Seems that we have a ant problem in our new little house. A shitload of em'. Ok. Maybe not a shitload and I'm not really sure what exactly the measurements on a shitload would be but.... I'm pretty sure we have not reached that level.

Anyhoo. Does anyone know how to get rid of them? I think they are coming in via a sliding glass door that leads to the deck. Tiny black ants. That bite.

I've tried a couple different sprays and we even bought yard stakes (with the ant repellant stuff) and the little oh-so-lovely boxes that supposedly offers the critters poison food to take back and wipe out the colony.

A mass murder if you will. Yet still.... they come back. Absolutely no food is in the area to attract and even in the kitchen we are putting everything into ziploc bags just to be safe.

Help?!

Weds Stuff

Thank you all for your wonderful support with my sisters battle with breast cancer. She is home now and from what I hear, doing very well. I plan on calling her tonight which will be the first time I've talked to her for a while now. Her hubby has been keeping the family up-to-date on everything. She's in Alaska - we are in Kansas.

I've been super busy lately. I'm trying to get a storefront up and running. Just a small shop with some of my wares. I have a couple of friends who also are going to try their hand at selling in the shop too. Fun fun fun. Will post a link here when I get the shop going..... don't hold your breath though! Its hard work, especially for the computer/html challenged such as myself.

Have also been sitting here listening to my biological clock - this triggered it. Absolute cuteness. What age do you think is just too old for a woman to have a baby? I mean, really. Is it uncool to be a 60 something woman with a kid in college?

And do I really want you to answer that?

For Rusty.....

My sister just went thru two surgeries in as many days. She found a lump in her breast only a few days ago and went in immediately to have a biopsy which turned out to be malignant. Its not been a great last few days for her as there is so much more to this story than I can share.

I'm reminded of how short life is and how absolutely awful I am at keeping in touch with those I love. Sending out a hug to you and yours tonight. So many of you have touched my life significantly this past year (or two!). You mean the world to me, all of you.

Now, go check your boobs. Its a sneaky little shit disease that must be ass kicked. Take care of yourself and if you get a minute say a little prayer for my sis.

Doogie thinkin' dog thoughts.

"Other dogs get to stay outside all day and eat stuff. Why can't I? Why won't my Mom just give me the whole box of biscuits instead of only one tiny little bite? Why does my Dad (who is not as cheap with the biscuits and therefor my favorite human) have to leave everyday? Why can't I go with him. What does squirrel poop taste like? Why do I have to share a water dish with my sister? I want to go bye bye. Someday I'm gonna figure out how to jump on the table. Rabbits really want me to chase them despite what my Mom says. I am so not due a haircut, again despite what my Mom says. What did I do with my bouncy ball? I wonder if this pose is pitiful enough to get me another biscuit."

Look at what the wonderful Kim sent me!

Its the mutha of all Dr Pepper cans. And.... a cute pillow to boot. Is it not the cutest thing you've ever seen? Maybe 18 inches tall and filled with stuffing - never seen anything like it before. Our very first house warming gift that will grace my craft room forever!

Knitting stuff.

One pair of socks I am working on right now. Well, rather one half of the pair of socks I'm working on. Can you guess the yarn brand?

Ok. That wasnt fair. But fun. Its actually yarn I dyed last week. I was going for bold blue and brown. As with all my yarn coloring adventures - it didnt turn out even remotely how I intended. I love it though - the striping is completely random and the colors don't pool. All good.

I have some other yarns that I dyed using an egg coloring kit I found at Walmart for all of 67 cents. Colors were pastel in the end result but I bet if I had used vinegar - it would of kicked it up a bit. Next time.... maybe.

The pup spying out the window, she hates the mailman. I mean, really hates the mailman. This is where she stands until the dirty rotten bastard (aka dude that wears the blue uniform, drives the white truck and touches our house every day) delivers our mail.

The new furniture. Ohhh ahhh.

Clutter. Gawd, the clutter. (see the red book with the torn edge? My MIL gave that to me, its a knitting book from before I was born. Wonderful!)

Hideous paint in the living room. Who paints their main area primer gray and dark red?

I'm also working on two (two I say) pairs of socks. Both are gifties and both are for gals who never recieved their socks in the SET exchange. Which is probably good for me as I swore off socks after the last pair I made. Never say never, eh.

We made it thru the move to the new house alive.

Barely.

Still a lot to do at the old house. Cleaning, yard work and all that blech. I'm heading over there today to take care of a good chunk of it.

I'm also getting my hair chopped off. All of it. Short. Considering it falls to the middle of my back right now - I may have balance issues when its all gone. Although I look like hell with short hair, I am just soooo tired of all the hassle. Not to mention I rarely wear it down anymore. Always clipped on top of my head. And looking in the mirror this morning it dawned on me that I'm a little too Peg Bundy for comfort.

So.... its gone. Depending on the ug factor - I may post a picture. Be afraid.

A quick word to those of you I terrorize daily (you know you love it) with emails or phone calls or IM's - sorry for my slack ass. I'll be back!

I was going to bore you with a big whiny post.

You know, like most of my other posts.

Crack myself up.

Anyway, I changed my mind and thought I'd share with you my internet adventures today. I've been all over. From California to Boston, up around Canada, briefly in England, a quick stop in Australia and then back home. (Remind me in about two weeks to hide the credit card statement from my hubby)

I'm exhausted.

I resisted but I'm pretty sure I need this purse. Just a cheaper version. Much cheaper. Like thrift-store cheap.

I also think that I want to try my hand at making my own lip balm.

So. A group of us crafterly chicks have been toying with the idea of having a big meet up/ get-together in Vegas next year. Figure it would be a way for all of us to meet and it would be in a neutral (yet fun fun fun) location. There are lots of fun things to do in Vegas besides losing all your money in a slot machine. Might even be able to get really discounted rates if there are enough of us.

What do you think? Any interest? You'd have a whole year to save your money! And I'd do my best to get us discounts.

Well, we got the house. Hooya. We hope to move in either Sunday or at the latest on Tuesday. I'm very excited but the whole idea of MOVING sucks! The good thing is that when my hubby was trying for the job in Arizona and I had packed up the entire house in a panic - I never unpacked. We've been using the same two forks, plates, glasses and pan (aka eating a lot of fast food) but..... everything is packed and ready to go. Now - to just go. :)

Got a wonderful Valentine giftie from the also wonderful Bethieee and Tahlia. In all the drama and stress that SP5 cause me (or I let it cause me) I am always reminded of the wonderful people I met that allowed me into their circle. Bethiee and Tahlia are two of those people. (along with the donnster, kim, shannon, Adele and soooo many more!). Thanks so much ladies. They sent me three little valentine boxes stuffed with goodies. Also a bag of jelly beans that uhm, didnt make the picture.

I also received (another surprise) a wonderful RAOK from Ms. A. Super soft merino from Painted Yarns. And a postcard to add to my collection. Thanks girlie - I'm dreaming of what to make with this gorgeous colorway!

In all thats going on around here I have managed to take some time to knit. Just a simple moss edging, stockinette scarf. Going to be similar to Knitty's Flora, just my own version. Its my Knitting Olympics entry. Doubting I'll win gold for it - but at least I showed up for the race eh. Pics when its finished. Using Rowan Kid Classic and leftover Reynolds Brushed Alpaca for the flower.

Off to the temp job from hell. ;)

ps - did you see my lovah kill the frog last night? Uncool. I said "bad ass" not "asshole". May have to find me a new lovah.

The Last Four Days.......

Look - proof that I have been knitting. Here is a pic of the kicky little dog sweater I started for the FurKids kal.

(I know that pic had to be HUGE for those of you reading via Bloglines - sorry....how to fix?)

This is the yarn I was using for Knitty's Ella. Which was a huge disaster with the Kuryeon. More on that another day. Hmph. Anyhoo, this is a pattern from Jil Eaton's Puppy Knits. And while I still need to finish the leg part of the sweater - its really quite cute. Too small for my pup but I'm sure I'll find a good home for it.

Here is the reason (or at least one of em') I've not been knitting lately. Rug obsession.

The first one is a little too latch hook'y to me. Kinda lame. The second one.... I may be digging. Very kicky, funky and cool. We'll see. The owners of the house we are trying to buy had this kick ass rug in front of their kitchen sink. I've been obsessed with making something similar. Obsessed I say. Have you ever had that happen? Where it just takes over your brain?

I've also been long overdue in thanking a couple of people for some wonderful gifties sent my way. First, there is the package from the Donnster and Sharon.

Sent to me via San Francisco from Australia! Sharon made that bag. Cute eh? I love em it!~ Has a litttle handle on it and a toggle button to gather for closure on the top. Just perfect design.

Donni sent me the notebook (for my knitting adventures), candy that has long since vanished (yum) and strangely enough - she sent me a tube (is that what I'd call it?) of Vegemite.

For all of you outside of Australia - if you are like me and curious about the stuff - a few words on Vegemite.

Its scary. I mean, scary. Its a dark brown oil resembling substance which completely caught me off guard. I had imagined a mayo type of spread. The taste is kind of bitter, very salty and it lingers. I can't imagine you would use much on whatever it is you use this stuff with! Then there is the smell. Its like bread dough that has soaked in soy sauce. Just bizarre. Yet, so interesting. Completely forgeign to this country yet - made by Kraft Foods.

Now, I'm hoping that my Australian buds know that I love you even if you eat Vegemite. And you feel the same about me too. Right?

Shannon, also a fabulous bag maker, sent me a wonderful HAND WRITTEN pattern for my first sewn bag. As in she wrote it all out, dimensions and all and gave it to me. Killer thoughtful. Now to get my ass in gear..... and start!

I've received some other surprises in the mail that I'll share with you tomorrow. My post from yesterday vanished - and I fear it was because of too many pictures. So - I'll not poke the bear today.

Despite the crossing of fingers/toes worldwide - we didnt get the lovely house we placed a bid on. But not to fret or check your toes for signs of weakness..... we did find another house that we also love. And its cheaper. And they accepted our offer. And....

...... it has a pool. Which - if you know me or have stopped by here on a day when I was bitching about KS being landlocked and me be being a fish out of water - a pool is my dream.

Alright. Decisions have been made. Spousal asses have been whooped. All of this means that we are going to stick it out in Kansas. Hubby is currently job hunting.... and I am house hunting. It was a compromise. And really, you don't want me to go into details. Trust me on this one.

Absolutely no knitting to report. None. Its been hell. I packed up all my projects except for one item. I've been so tired lately that I just have not had it in me to knit. I know. Thats scary. But true. Not to mention I broke (girly girl stuff coming, lemme apologize in advance) a fingernail wayyyy back and its really just too painful to knit.

I do miss it though. I'm restless and my brain is cluttered. Time spent knitting is relaxation for me. So, soon. I'll be back with the sticks...

I have so many things I want to work on. Shannon's wonderful bags, some new ideas for fingerless mitts, an idea for a giftie for my Tribe buds and more.

The new Interweave Knits comes out in a few weeks. Some really cute patterns in this round. Sooo loving the belt bag.

Magknits is up too.

Survivor starts tonight. Hooya! Rumour has it (and they say this every season) that this is supposed to be the best Survivor ever. We'll see. You know I'll watch either way. Its an addiction.

Reality TV Thursday

So. Next week Survivor Panama starts. My absolute favorite show. Have you seen the previews? There are supposed to be four teams/tribes this season. Older men, older women, younger men and the younger women.

I'm thinking about how this doesnt exactly seem fair. Especially in the beginning of the season where its really not about who the smartest player might be - rather the strongest. Seems like a team of young men would kick ass in the competitions.

But this is Survivor. And God knows I am always off on my predictions. But... I'll play anyway.

Last season we had a little contest to guess who would last the longest in the game. Lisa won with her prediction of Rafe going the furthest. Hmmph.

This season, while I am not going to have a contest (but will join in if anyone else does!!), I am going to post my predictions. Because - surely - after years of guessing this.... I will eventually get one right. Maybe. Or close at least.

So. Panama.

The first to go is tricky as there are four groups to choose from. My first instinct says Dan (the astronaut) will be the first to go. Just because. But I have a feeling that the older women are going to lose the first challenge so I will go with Ruth.

Wow! Many many Thanks to all of you and your wonderful support during my whine-fest in the last post.

I'm better now. And I really should not be worried - we are not sure about anything yet. Hopefully Thursday we will know more.

Ironically enough, last year around this same time we were in a similar situation. Rumour was my hubby was going to lose his job and we were looking into other areas. Back then - it was Denver. But he managed to hang onto his job. This year its a whole new ballgame with the company being bought by another. Its definite he will lose his job - the weenies just won't give a date.

Again -Thank You so much for soothing my grumblings. :)

Now for the Pet KAL Thingy girls. Don't hate me but I am going to put it on hold right now. I feel like maybe I should wait as I've got too many eggs in my basket right now. But - don't let me stop you from making a giftie for your pet - or a homeless one! And maybe later - I'll start the KAL again.

Its all about me

This last month has been nothing but a giant ball of stress. My hubby is going to be losing his job in the next "45-60" days. Or so his current employer has hinted at. His company was recently bought by the competition and the future for the Kansas City offices - is bleak.

With this area being so very lacking in jobs for his trade - he's started looking in other states. Right now he has a interview in Phoenix next week - and I am really freaking out about it.

Phoenix. Land of 110 degrees in the summer. I hate the heat. I hate summer. And I am not a big fan of the sun. I have a skin pigment where parts of my skin doesnt tan. So any tan I get - is always accompanied by a blotch of white. Its not attractive. Not to mention the blotchy parts - burn. Big time. So I do my best to avoid the sun. Which in KS is bad enough. We have awful summers here. But nothing compared to AZ.

I was reading here about a record heat day in Phoenix where the temp topped out at over 120 degrees. *#&%. Don't get me started on the bitch factor I enter when I'm too warm either. If you've been around me in the summer - you've seen it. It aint pretty.

There is also the whole "critter" thing. Spiders. Snakes. Scorpions (and not the band either).

Ok. But..... there is the fact that its a couple hours drive to the ocean. Or the kabillion places in CA I've never been. And Vegas. And I'm a little closer to my sister in AK.

Ok. Maybe its not that bad. I can wear hats. Sunblock. Stay in a/c during the nasty months. I'll avoid the critters. It will be a fresh start and maybe I will not be so shy - and actually join a knitting group. New yarn shops to hit.

And.... we will travel. A lot.

Done whining now.

The Pet KAL Thingy

Been thinking about a KAL that is just for making something for our pets. You know, a dog sweater or cat toy... yada yada.

Then I thought - what about a KAL that is not only for our kids with tails but also includes those pets less fortunate.

Have you ever been to a homeless animal shelter? If so - then you know the gut wrenching feeling you have when you leave. And all the eyes in all the little cages follow you. Then you go home and your thoughts are plagued with the little pup or kitten that caught your heart that day. You can't help them all (although you want to) but maybe if you could do just a little something for one or two of them......

Here is the plan Stan.

I am starting a KAL named "Kids with Tails". The plan is to not only make something for your little bundle of fur - but for one currently in a shelter. You can either see to it yourself that your giftie for the homeless animal goes to one of your local shelters or you can send it to me and I will donate it (in your name of course!) to a shelter in my area.

Think of how much your pet will love a new special gift just for them? Then imagine how much a animal in need would so welcome something made with love.

Just starting on making the blog purty but I will be adding free pattern links to the sidebar here in the next day or so. I'll even make a kicky button. Cuz you are worth it, man.

This is KAL is for all crafters. Knit, Sew, Crochet or whatever your talent. And you don't even have to have a pet to participate.

The Tabletop of Shame

Look.

The clutter in my house has now taken over my tabletop too. This is the coffee table that people who visit my home see. Its the center of the room. The focal point if you will. It used to have a lovely vase of flowers and magazines perfectly fan shaped on it.

Now its this. Two different knits that I'm working on. And you see, I can't put one away and just work on the other. No. I'm physically unable to do that. So they both sit there with one looking at me jealously while I work with the other.

The table also has my other 'need to do this' stuff on it. See the addy labels? Yeah, those all need to go on boxes that I should of sent out yesterday. The little book with the sunflower on it - well thats the address book that I will use .... for the labels.... for the boxes..... that should of gone out yesterday.

And I won't even show you what my sewing/craft table looks like. The table might even be gone - and now just a giant pile of stuff that I want to do but never seem to get around to.

What happened to my neat and tidy house? When did I become Clutter Woman?

hehe - the post yesterday with the er, interesting outfit is actually from here. Defined as "wearable art". Which I guess is kind of true. Art should capture your attention, be unique and make you wonder what the artist was thinking at the time the piece was made. Definitely did all of this for me.

Malabrigo Yarns. Have you heard of this stuff? Wonderful soft, handpainted merino. All of these will be winging their way off to new homes this weekend. Along with a contest win giftie to the ever so patient LisaB (sorrrrry!).

Also Shannon - look! Do I have the exact yarn for this or what??? Eh??? A gorgeous shawl pattern that looks within my limited range of knitting skills. Hooyah!

And finally - reality tv news. What are they doing to my man on Lost? Cuz it seems to me like they are trying to make him all cuddly and stuff now. Blech. He is not cuddly. He's a bad ass with a soft side for chunky blondes from KS. Yeah. Thats how you guys see him too.... right?

And I'm on the fence about whether it will work. I know it will be a larger finished item and thats ok, but worried about how this yarn will block. The pattern (deceptively easy peasy for the first 25 rows!!) looks complicated and I'd hate to have to frog.

My newest obsession. Obsessed I say.

Wrist warmers. Have made probably a dozen pairs in the last month. A three hour knit. Easy peasy and they make great gifties! These were made on #10's using Bernat Denim. Which might just be my favorite cheap yarn.

Next we have a photo of "where I knit". Cece tagged me for this last month! Behold the red loveseat in the den.

Yes, I will take the sheet off of the cushions when Better Homes & Gardens do their photo shoot in my oh-so-fancy designer home. If you've ever had a dog chew on a rawhide (brown stains!) while sitting on your NEW couch - you would have a lovely sheet on your loveseat too. Kim, that is my Dr Pepper mug. The little box in the mid right corner holds all my crochet hooks, dpn's and stitch markers. Don't forget about Sable Sable laying on the end - she's all about the warmth coming from the lamp.

Ms Danielle once again surprised me last week with some wonderful PINK stitch markers. A bad shot for you:

Cute eh? Also sent me some mints in the cutest little bear tin and a lovely card! Thanks chickie - I lucked out in SP4 you know. :)

Working right now on getting some knitting magazines up on eBay. Doing some serious stash reduction. Magazines (IK, VK and others), a couple Debbie Bliss books & eventually I'll have some yarn. Seems like things I sell on eBay always go very fast and I usually get a good price but its so much work. The pictures, the description, figuring out shipping, yada yada.

Which reminds me. I need a nap.

A brand new puter. Ohh. Ahh.

I've been trying to figure out new website software we just bought too. Its called Namo Web Editor. And its scary as hell. The outside of the box made it sound so very simple. I swear I can't get thru the first twenty pages of the booklet. Easy my ass. If anyone knows anything about this program - holler at me.

Please.

We also found a affordable digital camera that I'm hoping is a HUGE step from our current. Kodak EasyShare. Was the cheapest camera we could find that offered Optical zoom so we took the plunge. Soon - I will hopefully no longer bitch about my poor quality photos.

What will I do with all that free time eh?

Just got the new Jil Eaton book "Puppy Knits". Oh my gawd. These are some of the cutest dog patterns I've ever seen. One is even in fair isle. Maybe.... just maybe.... this will be my first attempt at FI? Maybe?

So a knitting book, a camera and a computer. Visa should be sending us a big fat Thank You card any day now.

Start sewing again. See, I have this new friend who sews wonderfully. And I think that if I ask nicely - she would offer help and advice. And stuff.

Panic. Rush. Frantic list making. One more trip to the mall for the giftie you forgot. Then one more trip to the grocery store for the sugar. Or the coffee. Or....

Then panic some more.

The holidays. Gotta love em.

I probably will be busy the next couple of days (pulling my hair out) - so I wanted to take a minute and wish you all a wonderful holiday! I owe so many of you a Thank YOU for the wonderful gifties and cards that have graced my doorstep this past week. Photos and a proper Thank You to follow! Cookies, pictures (of the elusive handsome shy son at that!!), Christmas ornaments, a wonderful Ornamental giftie, tea towels, notepads, a bitchin' mug with my lovah's (Holloway hunka) picture on it (wait til you see THIS!!) and the prettiest yarn (evah!).

I can't seem to get home in time to take some decent pics in the sunlight.... so.... these will have to do cuz I just can't wait any longer!

Mrs Donni sent me a little care package earlier this week.

(I know - awful pic.... just pretend its focused and clear!)

Ohh la la eh?! First some yummy wrist warmers that she designed. She made these in Camel - and they are so warm. They are my official 'driving' mitts now!

She also sent a wonderful skein of Karabella Gossamer in a wine red. I've never used this stuff, never even saw it before and I'm in love. Kind of lacy, mohair blend with a intermittent strand of gold running thru it. Lovely. And... she even sent me a pattern!

Next we have a Rowan booklet with the Birch pattern in it. Which I have seen on other blogs - but I could not find the pattern anywhere. Some other cute patterns too! Me. Digging this book.

She also sent a lovely ornament that came from a funky shop "just down her street" & Kaela sent me a packet of Princess stickers. Which of course is the best part of the whole package! Thanks Kaela!!

Thanks so much Donni. Yet another one of the good friends (tribey's) I have made thru this blog. Again - I'm such a lucky girl.

Easily Distracted

Tonight I was sitting in the waiting room at the hospital. All alone, deep in thought and happily knitting along on a mitten. This gal walks by, stops and says "make sure you look at the moon tonight" - and walks right on.

Ohhhhkay.

Strange, but this has been the week of people saying strange things to me (more on that later) so I just figure that later.... I will take a look at the moon.

Driving home I had forgotten about the woman. Besides, living in this giganto city - there is little opportunity to even see the sky. I miss living in more rural areas. I remember starry nights or nights with light cloud cover and seeing the stars peeking thru. I remember sunsets & watching a storm roll in.I miss it and wish I had appreciated it more when I had the opportunity.

I get a glimpse of the moon over the trees. Just a peek here and there and all of a sudden I luck out at a stop sign and the view is clear. A beautiful sight. I take it in and step into the 'way back' machine remembering back when I could see this view everyday.

Then the guy behind me jams on the horn. But... for one moment.... a spectacular view.

Knitting news. Been very busy knitting lately. All the last minute fuss for Christmas presents. Why do I not think of this time in August, when I actually have time before the holidays?

Here is a shot of a mitten (well - just the yarn really) I'm working on. One down, one to go.

Recognize that yarn Danielle? The yarn is Blue Moon Fiber Arts merino superwash. Lovely stuff that Danielle gave me when she was my spoiler in SP4. I've been saving the yarn as I could not deem anything worthy to make with such pretty fiber. I thought some mittens (for me for me for me!!) would fit the bill. Of course - there is still going to be 400 yards of this left over for me to fret over til the next "perfect" project! Thanks Danielle - I love this yarn and the pattern is perfect.

Also got a wonderful giftie in the mail from Donni today. Camera is not cooperating so I will wait to rave - cuz I'm sure you guys will want photos. Spoiled readers that you are. All five of you.

Did you see the Survivor finale? Eh? Danni won! Hooya! I was actually going to be fine with either of the final two winning. I mean - I was a Steph fan, I just didnt like her cockiness much this year. But... the KS girl came back and ended up kicking ass. Impressive. And a good end to this season of my favorite show. Previews for next year look really interesting too.

Now... what shall I do with my Thursday night 7pm time slot?

Exercise? Read a good book? Learn judo? Volunteer my time? Clean the house?

Or maybe.... I'll just start watching "Joey" instead. ;)

Ok. So. For all of you that hate the show - just know that this is the final week for the season. And I will shut up talking about it.... til next season.

Well, Judd is gone. He was not a very happy camper about it either. To quote his fabulous departure speech - "scumbags, scumbags, scumbag, eaten by alligators, mumble mumble mumble".

Ha.

In our Survivor contest, out of the hundreds of entries (ok, so there were only four) - Lisa has taken the grand prize. She picked Rafe to last the longest and.... he is still there. Shocking. I picked him as first to go. Proof again - I could not be MORE off on my predictions.

Lisa will be getting a prize or two for winning the contest. You lucky dawg.

Now. My predictions for the finale. You ready?

Rafe & Cindy to the final two. Thats what I think will happen.

What I'd like to happen is Dani & Rafe to the final two with Dani winning the bucks. Think about it. I first predicted that Rafe would be the first to go and that Dani wouldnt last. So - because my predictions are always completely off - I think that at least Dani has a shot. And I will admit that I misjudged her right from the beginning.

Plus, she's a KS girl.

Who do you think is going to win? Eh? Come on Kathy, Cindy, Lisa, Ailsa, Donni and all of you that watch the show but don't admit it!

And since I'm already talking about TV - lemme comment on Lost. What? Uh. The video dude and the book and the connection between the two? What is that again? Am I so focused on Sawyer that I am missing key parts to this show?

My Mother gave me these Avon samples. Ok, so I stole them out of her Avon bag. Whatever.

I'm a sucker for samples of anything and these were in these cute little bottles, all the more special. So into my purse went 2 lotions - one in Vanilla and one in Peach. I love lotions and creams, always looking for new stuff. Or for that one magic brand that will take 20 years off my face!

That night I slathered the Vanilla on my arms and legs. Later I even used some more on my hands. Had a really strong scent and I thought it was kind of wierd that it left a glisten on my skin. Didnt give it much thought though. Maybe the glisten was just temporary while it soaked in.

Next morning I get ready to hop in the shower and there is a rash on my arms and legs. What the hell? Stupid lotion. I'm pissy and itchy and a really lovely shade of red is making my pale arms/legs all the more attractive. Not.

I call my Mom to warn her. This lotion is toxic, man. Don't use it. I'm a mess.

Mom says "Roxanne, those bottles were not lotion. Those were free samples of SHOWER GEL".

And..... it said so on the friggin bottle.

That Girl in Florida.....

I asked Shannon to make a special present for my FIL. He recently had his left leg amputated and has been using a walker to get around. I asked her if she might be able to make him a bag for the walker.

Shannon sews. Quite well in fact. To the point where I am thinking about dragging the dusty sewing machine out of storage. She ended up making this spectacular bag. I mean - it is amazing. Pockets, straps, photo holders, a key ring and more.

I'm half tempted to just keep the bag for myself and whats surely to be my future.

She also sent me a kicky denim bag that I all but shamelessly begged for. Its cute but did not want to photograph in all its cuteness glory. So - I will post a photo of it a little later.

Looking into the box, expecting to see the bottom - what... uh... whats that?

No way.

The non-knitter chick actually sent me yarn. She. Sent. Yarn.

Oh god. Theres more. More. Yarn.

Can you believe it? I was shocked. And its wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. The first is Knitpicks Gossamer in Autumn. Stuff I've never worked with before.... but always wanted to. The bottom pic is Knitpicks Alpaca Cloud Lace in a dark rich rust color. Which is actually one of my favorite lace yarns.

She also sent candles (yum), a toy for Doogie and toys for Sable. The toys have been well abused in the past few days and the candles are perfect as I love a wonderful scented candle!

Shannon - dearie. With all you have been going thru in the past few weeks - I am just beyond words. Thank you so much for all of this. I was soooo very surprised and even without wonderful giftis - I'm really such a lucky girl that you came into my life.

How have you been? Eh?

There has been knitting and a even a little crochet. Here is the handbag I just finished.

Made with Knitpicks Wool of the Andes. Quite possibly one of my favorite yarns. And - this might be the best bag I've made to date. Its just like the pink/green I made a few months ago only a little bigger and I've kind of figured out the whole felting process. Kind of.

I do dig this bag though!

And here is a scarf I finished in a few short hours this afternoon.

Crocheted with Patons Divine (love love love) with a crochet flower attached to each end. Its soft, pretty and foo foo. A little too girly girl for me but its a gift for my Mother and I think she will like it.

I also finished my SET socks. Tina (bobina) should of received them already so I will post the pic. Tina - if you havent gotten them yet.... look away!

Are they beautishus? Nah. But they were made with love. And cursing. But moreso on the love thing. These were made with yarn I bought off eBay (lidika) and I used a pattern from the winter issue of FCEK. I'm hoping she likes em' - just happy that my first socks have a home. :)

Many Thanks to all of you who offered up help on these. Especially to Susie who phoned to walk me thru the toe decrease and the deadly kitchner stitch. :)

Now to close - I randomly picked a winner for the 'favorite photo contest' I had a few weeks ago. I had said I was going to pick my favorite but there was no way I could just choose one so.... my hubby picked a name for me. The winner is Lisa at Oliphaunt Knits! Its a poor day for pictures for my sad little camera - but.... if you dare to imagine.... these babies are even prettier in person. These socks were handmade by Donni just for me. Part of the whole SET KAL. Nice pretty blue, lovely cables and no constricting ribbing on my chubster calves. Could not be a better fit (Ailsa - we apparently are 'sole' sisters eh? hehe).

Sole sisters. That was a good one. Ok. Probably only to me and if I'm lucky to the other two people connected to these socks - but.... still.... good. (Donni used Ailsa as a foot model since we are similar in sizes)

Donni also sent me a bodacious scarf of which I have no pictures as the camera is just not having a good day - but... its truly lovely and so original. Here is a pic of the magnet she also sent.

Been sooo busy lately. Both at home and away. Have I mentioned recently that I hate my temp job?

Cuz I do.

Finally got my order from Knit Picks yesterday. I'd show you the bag of goodies but some of it is gifties and I don't want to spoil the surprise. I can show you the "Dye Your Own" stuff though.... cuz its mine. Allll mine!

Dyed this yesterday using some cheapy dye from Walmart. Worked really well, not to mention you didnt have to use boiling water so there was no chance of any accidental felting.

Ohh. Ahhh. Purty eh? Light green and a light teal. I'm digging these colors together. 2 skeins @ 880 yards each. Yeah. Right after I post this.... I will be googling for shawl patterns. :)

Also have been working on a ornament pattern for the Ornamental Swap.

Its been brought to my attention that I might possibly be death to the Survivor contestants. As in, if I pick them to win - they will immediately be booted off the show.

This could be true. A cruel realization that maybe I was the reason Amy was booted or the kinda hunka hunka Brandon ( i see you A, all droolin' and stuff). Who, you remember I completely dissed at the beginning of the season.

I was wrong. I realized this recently, admitted that I was kinda digged him now. And *poof*. He was gone.

Therefor (is it therefor"e"?) I am going to take a chance and talk to you about my intense love and affection for Judd and Jamie. Yeah. I'm really digging them both now. Oh. Baby. Baby.

Well. Finally now after 5 days I can talk about the show.

Hmphh.

First - my apologies to those of you who read my post and had yet to see the show. It won't happen again - special circumstances and I was pissed. And stuff.

So. They voted out Amy. My pick to win the Survivor contest.

This means its down to Kathy with her pick of Judd (ick)and Lisa with her pick of Rafe. Who knew?

Personally .... I'm thinking this might be one of those "Vespia" years. You know, where the gal that we really are not paying any attention to ends up winning. I guess since I can no longer root for Amy.... I am gonna pick Brandon. Who by the way is Ailsa's crush although she does not admit it easily. I really only pick him cuz he seems to be loyal to his alliance buddies & he's a Kansan.

And well, he is kinda hot.

This week there is supposed to be some kind of a immunity challenge where there is an extra immunity idol somewhere hidden. Whoever finds it - gets to use it at whatever challenge they want. This was in the previews - and on the CBS site - no spoilers from me, man. :)

So. I shall root for Brandon. Or Lydia. Whatevah. Hmmmph.

You know - you buy or make an ornament for someone.... and someone does the same for you.

Yet another attempt at a felted purse. This one - I used only recycled yarn.... cost me all of $1.25 to make. Plus I have a LOT of yarn left over! Doing all I can to make the yarn diet work.

Of course I talk about the yarn diet now - after just placing a $50 order thru Knitpicks. Hmph. Whatever. So, I cheated a wee bit.

A peek at what I just started. Old familiar shawl pattern - new funky colors. Ohhh... ahhhh.

A few shots of the beginning of foliage (the little that we have) here in KS - just for Shannon who is strucken with the awful disease of being foliage'less.

A random pic that showed up on my digital camera - not the most flattering shot of me but.... I thought the lighting was kinda funky. Please forgive the Nellie Olsen ringlets. I'm a victim of the 80's.

In knitting news - I have been in sock hell. Hell I say. The socks I am making for my SET pal are due by November 1st. Which means I would need to mail them out this week for them to be on time. Tina (bobina) there is the slightest (hugemammothgiganticenormous) chance that your socks will be late.

Here is a pic of what was going to be Tina's socks.

I know. They are kinda cute. But if you look close you will see the toe area is uh - (insert bad word here). I apparently do not understand the whole toe decrease thing. Even Doogie knew which part of these socks sucked.

See how she looks as if to say - oh no Mom, don't take a picture of this area. People will laugh at us.

She is right. Can anyone help me with toe decreases? It seems to be an issue with me numbering my needles - per the pattern. And I am not so fabulous at the kitchner stitch either.

To close - I was going thru our photo albums today. Actually looking for wonderful pictures I took a few years ago in New Hampshire of the fall season with foliage at full peak. Instead I stumbled upon this photo of me and my guy.

Smooching. Our wedding smooch. This would be my favorite photo from our wedding. Wanted to dare (doubledogdare) you to post the same. If you are a single gal or guy - how about a post of your fave photo? In fact, do you remember - the Wool of the Woods yarn (wool and 200 yds) I had that I was going to make a scarf with (for my Scarf Me pal)? I ended up going with something else - if you post a pic on your blog (must be wedding or your fave pic) and lemme know about it - I will pick one person to get that skein of yarn.

Go on.... I dare you.
